UK Flash Cards – iPhone & iPad app

There are plenty of flash card apps on the store, but all seem to be American English. I have written this app for my family and friends children. Hopefully it will help yours too! With several primary school teachers in the family, they’ve all had an input too!

Reading many of the reviews and trying out several apps myself before this one, I was frustrated with the lack of configuration. I wanted to be able to turn words off (or on!) on each card.

So this app is completely configurable. The app settings are located in the device settings (accessed through the home screen). This means that when you are in the flash card application, the user cannot accidentally change anything (perfect for little children!)

iPad Screenshots

There are 162 images across 9 categories
- 3 letter words
- 4 letter words
- 5 letter words
- 6+ letter words
- Numbers (0-9)
- Letters (Aa, Bb etc)
- Colours
- Shapes
- Body parts (eye, ear etc)

All the images are high resolution beautiful images. I’ll be adding more on a regular basis. If there’s anything that you’d like to see, please let me know. I’d be happy to include it in later releases!

Please let me know any feedback and I will update as necessary.

Hello, just wondering when you will add voice to the cards app? It’s been a few months now with now extra cards or the voice.

  • mattfacer

Hi. Sorry about that! We’ve had a busy time recently with me changing jobs and selling our house – so I’ve just not had time to update the app! The voice is recorded, I just need to add it all. I’ll try to work on the app over the weekend :)

Any chance that you have had time to ready the voice added version for launch between the move and the job change? I have a little chap here who’d love to hear someone more immediately responsive than mummy chirrup off the words!

  • Chris

Want to buy this app but holding off until the voice updates are done. Can you let people know expected timescales please?

    The cards don’t have sound

  • Johanna

Argh! Can’t believe I just purchased this specifically to have spoken UK English flashcards and THEN find out there is no sound!! So another votre for adding this soon please.
Also, instead of random or alphabetical could you add categories like: animals, instruments, shapes… that kind of thing. Thankyou!

Hi everyone – thanks for the comments! Since posting last (Oct 2011) I have sold my house, renovated another and finally moved in to it. I’m currently trying to find some time to update the app (between work, my 2 year old and newly pregnant wife!). I am hoping to update this app over the Christmas period. I’ve got plenty of new images ready too! :)

I’ve just purchased this specifically for the English voice & there isn’t one :/ I’m also annoyed that there isn’t a category section. I’ve plenty of friends to recommend this to & they are certain to pass on the good news. Please get this sorted as I feel like
I’ve been a little conned. I understand that you are a busy parent but we are also busy parents wanting to spend time teaching our children in as fun a way as possible.
